Steamed Vegetables with Sardines (Diabetes-Friendly & Heart-Healthy)
A colorful mix of steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage topped with sardines and a lemon-olive oil drizzle — light and heart-friendly.

This is a stack-it-and-go kind of meal: a pile of lightly steamed vegetables, canned sardines warmed through, and a squeeze of lemon over the top.
Sardines bring the kind of fat found in fatty fish along with a solid hit of protein, which is part of why this plate is tagged both diabetes-friendly and heart-healthy — that fat profile is generally viewed more favorably than the fat in fried or heavily processed proteins. The vegetables themselves are steamed just until tender-crisp, which keeps their fiber and volume high relative to their calories, helping the whole plate feel filling without leaning on starch. A touch of ginger and a finishing drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice tie it together.
Steam the sturdier vegetables first and add the leafy greens in the last minute or two, so everything finishes tender at the same time.
