This stew leans on smoked paprika to do a lot of the work, giving simple white beans and roasted red peppers a deep, almost meaty flavor without any meat in the pot. A handful of kale stirred in near the end adds color and a bit of chew.

Cannellini beans are a strong source of soluble fiber, which is part of why this stew is tagged heart-healthy, and the modest olive oil used here keeps the fat mostly unsaturated. The tomato broth is low in added fat and, when you go easy on the salt, this stew fits well within a lower-sodium way of eating - which is why it also carries the high blood pressure tag.

Roasted red peppers bring vitamin C to round out an already vegetable-forward pot, giving a gentle immune boost alongside the filling combination of beans and greens. Ladle it into bowls with a drizzle of good olive oil and some crusty bread on the side.
