A juicer does all the work here, turning firm vegetables and fruit into a smooth, deeply colored juice in just a few minutes.

Beets and carrots are the base of this juice, and it's tagged for detox and cleanse routines because vegetable-forward juices like this one are commonly included in that kind of eating pattern. A knob of fresh ginger and a squeeze of lemon add brightness that keeps the earthy beet flavor from feeling too heavy.

Drink it fresh for the best flavor — juice like this doesn't keep well for more than a day.

If you don't have a juicer, a high-powered blender works too — just strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or nut milk bag afterward. The deep red color is normal and comes entirely from the beets.
