Misir wot is one of Ethiopia's great comfort foods, and this version keeps the warm, earthy berbere flavor while leaning into what makes it genuinely good for you: humble red lentils simmered slowly with tomatoes, ginger, and greens until the whole pot turns deep and fragrant.

This bowl earns its heart-healthy tag honestly. Red lentils are naturally high in fiber and virtually fat-free, and cooking with no-salt-added tomatoes plus low-sodium broth keeps sodium low without sacrificing flavor—the berbere spice blend and fresh ginger do the flavor work instead of salt. A finish of wilted greens and lemon juice adds potassium and brightness, fitting comfortably within a DASH-style eating pattern.

Serve it with a small side of brown rice or whole grain injera for a satisfying, plant-based dinner that may support cardiovascular health as part of a balanced diet.
